SERAIKELA – In a remarkable display of community solidarity, villagers in Mutugoda, under Dalbhanga OP of Kuchai police station, destroyed eight acres of opium cultivation on Friday. This decision was reached during a gram sabha meeting, where they collectively vowed to abandon illegal poppy farming.

Proactive Community Steps Yield Results

The villagers, led by their commitment to abide by the law, eradicated the opium fields. Addressing the gram sabha, Seraikela SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat applauded their decision, emphasizing that awareness campaigns are now bearing fruit.

Encouragement Towards Traditional Agriculture

SP Lunayat urged the villagers to embrace traditional farming practices, offering guidance and support. He warned of strict actions against any future instances of illegal cultivation. “Community efforts like these not only help uphold the law but also protect innocent villagers from legal troubles,” he said.

Awareness Campaigns Gain Momentum

Under SP Lunayat’s direction, awareness drives have been conducted across regions historically prone to opium cultivation. These campaigns aim to educate villagers on the benefits of lawful farming practices and the consequences of illegal activities.

Wider Appeal For Community Participation

The SP appealed to other village councils to adopt similar initiatives, ensuring a collective move towards lawful practices. Such actions, he noted, help foster a culture of awareness and responsibility.
