CHAIBASA – Vocational teachers of Kolhan University staged a protest at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding the immediate renewal of contracts and payment of three months’ pending salaries.
Teachers, under the Kolhan University Vocational Teachers’ Association, expressed concerns over contract delays, which have remained unresolved for five months. Amar Nath Singh, the association’s president, highlighted the issue, stating that teachers have not been receiving regular salaries due to the stalled contract renewal process.
Long-Standing Salary Issues
The teachers pointed out that their salaries for the past three months remain unpaid. They claimed that despite repeated appeals to the administration, no concrete solution has been provided. Singh also mentioned that in December 2023, a verification letter was issued by the state government. However, the process has yet to be completed, leading to prolonged difficulties for educators.
Positive Response from the Administration
During the protest, the Vice-Chancellor addressed the teachers’ concerns and instructed the relevant officials to finalize all necessary procedures within one day. The directive aims to expedite the contract renewal process and ensure that teachers’ salaries are released without further delay.
Teachers described this decision as a positive step, expressing hope for a quick resolution. Meanwhile, similar salary delays have been reported in other universities in Jharkhand, raising concerns about the financial management of vocational teaching programs across the state.
