RANCHI – Rabindra Nath Mahato was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on the second day of its special session on Tuesday. This marks the first time since Jharkhand’s formation that an Assembly Speaker has been re-elected for a second consecutive term.

Election and Acknowledgment

The proposal for Mahato’s appointment was placed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and supported by Mathura Mahato. A total of seven proposals were received in his favor, all of which were approved unanimously. Following his election, Mahato expressed gratitude to all political parties and called for smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the Assembly.

“I expect the House to run seamlessly without any disruptions. I thank all parties for their trust and support,” Mahato said.

Leaders Congratulate the Speaker

BJP leader Babulal Marandi extended his best wishes to Mahato, urging him to ensure that every issue raised in the House receives appropriate attention. “As the custodian of the House, you should give opportunities to all members. This will instill confidence among new legislators,” Marandi remarked.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radhakrishna Kishore also congratulated Mahato on behalf of all members, acknowledging his leadership and commitment to the House’s dignity.

CM Hemant Soren’s Address

Chief Minister Hemant Soren congratulated Mahato on behalf of the ruling party and the government. He praised Mahato’s efforts to uphold the Assembly’s decorum and emphasized the importance of both the ruling party and opposition in the state’s development. “The public’s decisions during elections must be respected, and all parties must work together for Jharkhand’s growth,” Soren stated.

CM Soren, along with Babulal Marandi, ceremoniously seated Mahato in the Speaker’s chair, marking the occasion with mutual respect and unity.

Historic Moment for Jharkhand

Rabindra Nath Mahato’s re-election signifies a rare moment in Jharkhand’s legislative history. The consensus between ruling and opposition parties reflects a shared commitment to the Assembly’s effective functioning.

With the formalities concluded, the Assembly proceedings were adjourned until 11 a.m. on December 11.
