JAMSHEDPUR – A massive fire broke out near Sonari Airport’s Aerodrome Market late last night, engulfing multiple shops and causing substantial losses.
The fire reportedly began in a spice shop and quickly spread, affecting at least a dozen shops selling vegetables, clothing, and other goods. Witnesses describe the sudden spread of flames, which ignited chaos among shop owners and customers as they rushed to evacuate the area.
In response, Tata Steel’s fire team along with Jharkhand State fire services rushed to the site, working through the night to contain the blaze. While officials have yet to determine the exact cause, the fire’s intensity resulted in extensive damage, with losses estimated in the lakhs.

Authorities Provide Assurances and Assistance
Following news of the incident, Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta and MLA Saryu Roy arrived at the scene to assess the damage and speak with affected shopkeepers. “Our priority is to provide immediate support,” Gupta stated, emphasizing that aid will be organized through government channels as quickly as possible.
Expressing empathy for the shopkeepers, Gupta listened to accounts from many of those impacted and assured them of state support. “As a public servant, my commitment is to stand by each affected family in this community,” Gupta added.
MLA Saryu Roy also contacted district officials to expedite firefighting efforts and promised additional resources to help those affected rebuild their businesses.
