Jharkhand Seizes Rs 1.25 Crore Illegal Goods Pre-Election

Officials ramp up efforts to curb voter inducement and illegal trafficking

RANCHI – Jharkhand election officials report seizing illegal goods valued at Rs 1.25 crore within 72 hours of announcing assembly election dates.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Neha Arora shared this information during a press conference.

Various enforcement agencies are conducting continuous operations to ensure fair elections.

Moreover, state police have seized goods and cash worth Rs 64 lakh.

The Commercial Tax and Excise Departments have confiscated items valued at Rs 28 lakh and Rs 24 lakh respectively.

Furthermore, drugs worth Rs 18 lakh have been seized in these operations.

Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar held a review meeting with senior officials.

He warned of potential attempts to influence voters through cash and other inducements.

Meanwhile, officials are particularly concerned about illegal alcohol and drug trafficking in border areas.

Intensive CCTV surveillance campaigns will monitor checkpoints in bordering states and districts.

Additionally, Kumar instructed RBI officials to monitor suspicious and bulk transactions.

On the other hand, various departments have been directed to maintain vigilance.

These include Traffic, Forest, Airport Authority, Prohibition and Excise, ED, Customs, and Income Tax.

A senior police official stated, "We’re committed to preventing any form of electoral malpractice."

The seizures highlight the administration’s proactive approach to ensuring free and fair elections.
