Jamshedpur Implements Traffic Plan to Ease Festival Congestion

Key Points:

  • Heavy vehicles restricted Oct 9-12

  • Designated parking areas enforced

  • One-way system for autos introduced

JAMSHEDPUR – The city administration has unveiled a comprehensive traffic management strategy for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, aiming to enhance safety and reduce congestion.

In preparation for the influx of visitors during Durga Puja, Jamshedpur authorities have announced a series of traffic regulations to be implemented from October 9 to 13.

The plan includes strict limitations on heavy vehicle movement, with operations permitted only between 5 AM and 11:30 AM from October 9 to 12.

Outside these hours, all heavy vehicles except buses will be prohibited from entering the city.

On October 12 and 13, the ban extends to both heavy vehicles and four-wheelers until 6 AM on the day of immersion.

To manage the flow of smaller vehicles, a one-way system has been introduced for auto-rickshaws:

  1. Mango to Sakchi roundabout: Via MGM Hospital

  2. Sakchi to Mango: Old bridge route

  3. Bhalubasa and Baridiha-bound: Redirected through Straight Mile Road

The administration has emphasized the importance of adhering to designated parking areas, warning of penalties for roadside parking.

"Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors during this joyous occasion," stated a senior traffic official.

Additional safety measures include:

  • Mandatory helmet use for two-wheeler riders

  • Prohibition of mobile phone use while driving

  • Increased vigilance against dangerous driving behaviors

Emergency vehicles and essential services will be exempt from these restrictions, while peace committee members can obtain special permissions for small vehicle operation.

Pedestrians will retain access to the old Kharkai Bridge, but vehicular entry to Adityapur will be limited.

The authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious objects by calling the police control room at 100, emphasizing the collective responsibility in maintaining a secure festival environment.

As Jamshedpur prepares for the vibrant Durga Puja celebrations, these traffic measures aim to strike a balance between facilitating devotee movement and ensuring public safety.
