Tata Steel UISL and JHRA Launch Bio Gas Waste Management in Jamshedpur

New system to be inaugurated on August 20, aims to reduce urban waste and LPG consumption in local establishments.

Tata Steel UISL, in collaboration with the Jamshedpur Hotel and Restaurant Association (JHRA), is set to launch a Bio Gas Waste Management system in key establishments across the city, marking a significant stride towards sustainable waste management.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel UISL has collaborated with the Jamshedpur Hotel and Restaurant Association (JHRA) to implement a Bio Gas Waste Management system in a number of notable establishments, such as Akino Luxury Hotel, Dasaprakash, Kerala Samajam School, and MSMEs such as Gajanan Ferro and Premium Plastic.

Ritu Raj Sinha, the Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL, will inaugurate the system at Kerala Samajam School, Dasaprakash, and Akino Hotel on August 20, 2024.

Ravish Ranjan, President of JHRA, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "This initiative is revolutionary for sustainable waste disposal in the hospitality sector." It not only minimizes waste but also reduces LPG consumption by a minimum of three cylinders per month.

The initiative is consistent with the Swachh Bharat mission and underscores the potential for the hospitality industry to be a leader in sustainable practices.

Tata Steel UISL intends to expand this refuse management system to all establishments in and around Jamshedpur under the leadership of Ritu Raj Sinha.

"The Bio Gas Waste Management system also produces valuable manure, promoting a circular economy," according to Sinha.

Ranjan underscored the necessity of such systems, noting that hotels and restaurants produce substantial quantities of urban refuse, with organic waste comprising 40% of the total. "Landfills are overflowing, and this system offers a practical solution by converting waste into energy," according to him.

It is anticipated that the partnership between JHRA and Tata Steel UISL will be instrumental in reducing India’s dependence on fossil fuels and addressing the increasing urban waste problem.
