Cricketer Saurabh Tiwary’s Identity Used in Online Cricket Scam

Fake Facebook account solicits registration fees for bogus league opportunities

A fraudulent Facebook account impersonating former cricketer Saurabh Tiwary has been used to deceive aspiring cricketers in Jamshedpur.

JAMSHEDPUR – Former cricketer Saurabh Tiwary, a resident of Vijay Garden Baridih, has fallen victim to identity theft in an online cricket scam targeting young athletes.

The scammers created a fake Facebook account using Tiwary’s name and photo to lend credibility to their fraudulent scheme.

On August 7, the counterfeit account posted an invitation for young boys to register for the Uttar Pradesh T20 League and Karnataka Premier League 2024.

The post provided a mobile number (72908 29790) for interested parties to contact, falsely promising participation in these leagues.

Fraudsters demanded registration fees of Rs 499 and Rs 999, using forged documents purportedly from the National Cricket Academy.

Tiwary filed a complaint at the Bistupur Cyber Police Station, detailing how his identity was misused to con unsuspecting individuals.

The scam has not only deceived aspiring cricketers but also tarnished Tiwary’s reputation in the process.

Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation to track down those responsible for the fraudulent activity.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and verify information before making any payments to avoid falling victim to such scams.

The Bistupur Cyber Police are working diligently to trace the origin of the fake account and bring the perpetrators to justice.
