XITE Gamharia Celebrates International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

XITE Gamharia hosted a vibrant celebration of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, highlighting Jharkhand’s indigenous traditions.

On August 11, 2024, XITE Gamharia organized a culturally rich event to celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, showcasing the traditions and contributions of Jharkhand’s indigenous communities.

JAMSHEDPUR – XITE Gamharia celebrated the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples with a dynamic event that honored the traditions, values, and contributions of Jharkhand’s indigenous communities.

Organized by the Department of English with support from the Cultural Club, Sarjan (Literary Club), and the Branding & Communication Department, the event featured a variety of engaging and educational activities that brought the XITE community together in appreciation of indigenous heritage.

The day began with a solemn Invocation of Ancestors, emphasizing the deep connection to indigenous roots, followed by an Introductory Speech by Enock Topno, who highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous cultures in Jharkhand.

Fr. Ritesh Edwin Dungdung, SJ, welcomed the audience, expressing gratitude and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to promoting indigenous cultural heritage.

Sarjan – The Literary Club led a captivating storytelling session, exploring the rich traditions and moral values of Jharkhand’s tribes.

This was followed by a movie screening by TSF, providing insights into the struggles and triumphs of indigenous peoples.

Musical performances by Manual brought the sounds of indigenous culture to life, resonating deeply with the audience.

The highlight of the day was a Ramp Walk where students creatively depicted various aspects of Jharkhand’s tribal culture, with Gopal, a 1st-year BA Economics student, winning first prize for his representation of sacred worship in Jaher.

The event concluded with a Prize Distribution ceremony, a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Akinchan Xaxa, traditional food stalls, and a Chain Dance, which brought everyone together in unity and cultural pride.

Special guests Suraj Gilua, Manager, and Nitish Kumar, Consultant from Tata Steel Foundation, graced the event, underscoring the importance of such celebrations.

The event was a resounding success, with full participation from students, faculty, and staff.
