Jharkhand Ruling Party Protests BJP MP’s Union Territory Proposal

JMM opposes Nishikant Dubey’s call to merge parts of Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Bihar

The ruling JMM party in Jharkhand protested against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s proposal to create a new Union Territory from parts of three states.

RANCHI – The ruling JMM party of Jharkhand held a demonstration outside the Assembly in Ranchi to protest the proposal of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey to establish a Union Territory from portions of three states.

Dubey’s statement in the Lok Sabha on July 25, in which he proposed the establishment of a Union Territory, which would encompass specific districts from Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Bihar, was the catalyst for the protest.

Dubey argued that this action was required to combat the purported decrease in tribal population in the Santhal Parganas region as a result of "Bangladeshi infiltrators."

The BJP was accused by Cabinet Minister Deepak Birua of attempting to partition Jharkhand in the name of combating infiltration.

Birua declared during the protest outside the Assembly, "We will not permit the BJP to divide the State."

Babulal Marandi, the president of the State BJP, disassociated the party from Dubey’s statements, asserting that they were his personal opinions.

Nevertheless, BJP legislators organized their own demonstration, accusing the governing alliance of shielding Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Dubey’s assertion that the tribal population in Santhal Parganas was declining was endorsed by BJP MLA Anant Ojha.

The proposed Union Territory would encompass the Santhal Parganas region of Jharkhand, the Araria, Kishanganj, and Katihar districts of Bihar, and the Malda and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal.

The ongoing debate regarding demographic changes and their effects on tribal populations in the region is underscored by this political confrontation.
