Tata Steel Honors Young Climber Kaamya Karthikeyan for Historic Everest Ascent

Tata Steel celebrated Kaamya Karthikeyan’s remarkable achievement of summiting Mount Everest at just 16, marking her as the youngest Indian to do so.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel honored Kaamya Karthikeyan today, recognizing her extraordinary accomplishment of climbing Mount Everest on May 20.

Kaamya Karthikeyan’s ascent of Everest from the Nepal side was supported by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).

Her achievement, being the youngest Indian to summit Everest, is a testament to her dedication and determination.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, praised Kaamya’s remarkable feat during the felicitation event.

Kaamya’s mentor and father, Commander S Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, also summited Everest shortly after her.

Kaamya’s extensive preparation, including acclimatization rotations and climbing Mt. Lobuche, played a crucial role in her success.

TSAF’s comprehensive support, both financial and through training, has been pivotal in Kaamya’s journey.

Her next goal is the "Grand Slam Explorer" challenge, aiming to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents and ski to the North and South Poles.

Kaamya’s diverse talents, including music, dance, skiing, and mountaineering, highlight the potential of Indian youth.

TSAF’s commitment to empowering women through outdoor adventures is evident in Kaamya’s success, following in the footsteps of trailblazers like Premlata Agarwal and Arunima Sinha.

TSAF celebrates Kaamya’s achievement with pride and continues to support individuals pushing the boundaries of human potential.

Kaamya’s story sends a powerful message to young people worldwide about the impact of passion, commitment, and support in achieving extraordinary goals.

This was Kaamya’s first attempt to climb Everest, and she aims to complete the Explorers Grand Slam by 2025, potentially becoming the youngest to do so.

She has already conquered the highest peaks in South America, Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America.

Kaamya received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar in 2021.
