Heavy Rains Cause Severe Water Logging in Jamshedpur; MLA Saryu Roy Urges Action

MLA Saryu Roy inspects water-logged roads in Jamshedpur, urges Tata Steel for improved drainage solutions

Severe water logging was reported at major intersections in Jamshedpur following heavy rains on Wednesday evening.

JAMSHEDPUR – After heavy rain on Wednesday evening, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy inspected major roads in the city and found severe water logging at key intersections in the Tata lease area.

MLA Roy informed Tata Steel management of the situation and reiterated his long-standing demand for a comprehensive drainage scheme to prevent water logging during heavy rains.

Officials from JNSC and Tata Steel UYSL had previously assured that all drains would be cleared before the monsoon.

While water logging has decreased in some areas, many drains still lack the capacity to handle heavy rainfall.

Roy received reports late at night that rainwater had entered homes in several localities, causing significant damage.

From 7 to 11 am, he visited areas like Mathurabagan, Saraswati Nagar, Bajrang Nagar, and Tuiladumri to assess the situation and contacted residents in Neeti Bagh and Gangotri Apartment.

The worst-hit area was Mathura Bagan, where drainage issues have worsened due to the construction of Tata Steel’s sewerage treatment plant.

Residents’ homes were flooded due to inadequate drainage solutions.

During his visit, Roy found Tata Steel’s cleaning workers actively addressing the problem.

The park in Mathura Bagan, built by JNAC, was also in poor condition.

Roy has been advocating for the creation of a Parks and Gardens department within JNAC to maintain local parks, but no action has been taken yet.

In Laxmi Nagar, JNAC workers have not been cleaning the area for several days, as they have been reassigned to the co-operative college.

Roy immediately complained to the Deputy Commissioner and requested additional laborers for election work without disrupting local services.

In a meeting with Tata Steel and Wire Company officials, Roy discussed solutions for water logging in Mathura Bagan and other areas.

Officials assured him they would implement a drain-based drainage policy and explore alternative drainage solutions.

They also agreed to consider public spaces for sports and worship in Mishra Bagan and improve public facilities where needed.

Roy emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between Tata Steel and the Jharkhand government for effective municipal services in Jamshedpur.

He proposed that Tata Steel maintain cleanliness in the city, similar to its role in providing water and electricity.

According to Roy, Tata Steel officials agreed and expressed readiness to take on this responsibility, pending clear government instructions.

Roy assured that he would discuss this with the Municipal Department Secretary after the Lok Sabha elections.

He also proposed immediate cleaning of the main drain in Bhuiyadih and construction of roads over it to improve traffic flow.

He said that Tata Steel officials have confirmed that they have conducted a joint survey with the Road Construction Department to expedite the construction of a bridge and road from Litti Chowk to NH 33.

A Saryu Roy supporter, commented, "The recent inspection by MLA Roy shows the urgency of addressing water logging issues in our area."

He further added, "The municipal authorities must be committed to collaborating with local authorities to improve the city’s infrastructure and public facilities."
