Jamshedpur Lok Sabha Seat Awaits History-Making Third-Time Winner in Upcoming Elections

BJP’s Bidyut Baran Mahato and JMM’s Samir Mohanty Vie for Unprecedented Victory

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Jamshedpur parliamentary seat is poised for a potentially historic outcome, with no Member of Parliament having ever secured the constituency three times in its unique political history. The upcoming contest sees the BJP’s incumbent MP, Bidyut Baran Mahato, aiming to surpass the two-time victories of his predecessors, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) banks on the support of the Mahto community to propel its candidate, Baharagora MLA Samir Mohanty, to success.

JAMSHEDPUR – The political landscape of Jamshedpur is gearing up for a pivotal Lok Sabha election, as the parliamentary seat has never witnessed a Member of Parliament securing victory for a third consecutive term.

This distinctive aspect of Jamshedpur’s electoral history sets the stage for a fierce battle between the BJP’s incumbent MP, Bidyut Baran Mahato, who is eyeing an unprecedented third win, and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) candidate, Samir Mohanty, who hopes to leverage the support of the influential Mahto community to clinch the seat.

In the 1998 and 1999 elections, Abha Mahato emerged victorious against Congress candidate Ghanshyam Mahato, further cementing the Mahato family’s political influence in the region.

The BJP’s Bidyut Baran Mahato, who has already secured two consecutive wins, now stands on the brink of making history by potentially becoming the first-ever Member of Parliament to win the Jamshedpur seat three times.

However, the JMM is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to wrest control of the constituency, placing its bets on Baharagora MLA Samir Mohanty, who hails from the influential Mahto community.

In the 1989 and 1991 elections, Shailendra Mahato successfully defeated both Chandan Bagchi of the Congress and Amarendra Pratap Singh of the BJP, showcasing the Mahato family’s political clout in the region.

The Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat has a unique political history, with three individuals – Shailendra Mahato, Abha Mahato, and the current incumbent, Bidyut Baran Mahato – having secured victory twice, but never managing to win the seat for a third consecutive term.

The JMM’s decision to field Samir Mohanty is seen as a strategic move to capitalize on the Mahto community’s strong backing, which could prove to be a deciding factor in the upcoming elections.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, JMM leader Champai Soren suffered a resounding defeat at the hands of BJP candidate Bidyut Baran Mahato, underlining the challenging task that lies ahead for the regional party.

As the election campaign gains momentum, both the BJP and the JMM are expected to intensify their efforts to connect with voters and present their vision for the development and progress of the Jamshedpur region.

The Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat is set for a historic election as BJP’s Bidyut Baran Mahato aims for an unprecedented third-term victory against JMM’s Samir Mohanty, who banks on the Mahto community’s support.
