Heat Wave Grips Jharkhand, Yellow Alert Issued as Temperatures Soar

Kolhan Region Sizzles Under Intense Sun and Humidity, Rain Expected After Scorching Spell

Jharkhand, including the Kolhan region, is currently grappling with a severe heat wave following recent rains, leaving residents struggling with sweltering temperatures and oppressive humidity. The weather department has issued a heat wave alert for the state, with temperatures in four districts surpassing the 40-degree Celsius mark on Wednesday.

RANCHI – As the rains subside, Jharkhand, particularly the Kolhan region, finds itself in the throes of a blistering heat wave, causing immense discomfort to residents due to the combination of strong sunlight and stifling humidity.

The weather department has sounded a heat wave alert across the state, with the prospect of rain providing a glimmer of hope for some respite.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heat wave conditions in Jharkhand, with warnings in place for May 18 and 19. On May 18, the alert covers Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, and Sahibganj districts, while on May 19, the alert extends to Dumka, Garhwa, Palamu, Godda, Pakur, and Sahibganj districts, in addition to the Kolhan region.

Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26.4 degrees, while the temperature in West Singhbhum also reached 38.2 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday, four districts in the state witnessed temperatures crossing the 40-degree Celsius threshold, with Daltenganj recording the highest maximum temperature at a scorching 41.8 degrees Celsius.

Seraikela experienced a searing temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius, adding to the discomfort of the residents in the region.

As the heat wave tightens its grip on the state, people are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the intense heat and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.

The weather department’s yellow alert serves as a warning for residents to stay hydrated, seek shelter in cooler areas, and minimize outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

With the anticipation of rain following this scorching spell, people are hopeful for a much-needed break from the oppressive heat and humidity that has engulfed the region.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to provide necessary assistance and relief measures to vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions, who are particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of extreme heat.
