Drinking Water Crisis in Jugsalai: Residents Protest Amid Severe Shortage

Jugsalai Municipal Council area in Jamshedpur faces an escalating drinking water crisis, leading to resident protests and demands for urgent action.

Residents of Jugsalai Municipal Council are grappling with a severe drinking water shortage, with the situation worsening each day.

JAMSHEDPUR – The people of Jugsalai Municipal Council area are currently enduring a significant drinking water crisis, prompting local demonstrations.

On Tuesday, residents protested in front of the Jugsalai Municipal Council, warning of potential violent agitation if their water supply issues are not resolved promptly.

The water supply in Shafiganj locality has been disrupted for the past two months, leading to several demonstrations by the local population.

In a hasty attempt to address the issue, the Drinking Water Department began supplying water to Shafiganj locality by installing valves on the RP Patel School Road pipeline.

This measure has somewhat alleviated the problems in Shafiganj, but it has exacerbated the situation for residents of RP Patel School Road.

The water scarcity has become so critical that residents are struggling to obtain even a drop of water.

Frustrated by the ongoing crisis, the people of RP Patel School Road’s Chaprahiya Mohalla surrounded the Jugsalai Municipal Council, criticizing the local council, Drinking Water Department, and Electricity Department.

Local resident Praveen Kumar shared that while some relief has reached Shafiganj locality, the issues for RP Patel School Road residents have worsened.

He explained that the problem in Shafiganj should have been addressed differently, rather than redirecting water by cutting the pipeline from RP Patel School Road.

Adding to their woes, the electricity supply is being cut off precisely when water is expected, highlighting the failure of the departments involved.

Kumar warned that if the water crisis is not resolved soon, the residents might resort to more intense forms of protest.
