RANCHI – Internal dissent emerges within the Congress party over the selection of Deepika Pandey Singh as the candidate for the Godda parliamentary seat, with calls for a review based on community representation concerns.
The Deoghar district Congress committee has formally requested the party’s national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, to reconsider Singh’s candidacy.
Expressing significant discontent, the committee highlighted that the selection did not adequately represent the local demographic, which predominantly consists of backward classes, Dalits, tribals, and minorities.
According to the committee, about 90% of Godda’s population feels overlooked by the decision to nominate Singh, perceiving her as a weak choice.
The local party unit warned of collective resignations if the candidate’s nomination is not reconsidered within seven days, suggesting potential fractures within the party.
The discontent underscores a larger issue of representation and acceptance of central leadership decisions at the local level.
