Holi Donation Dispute Turns Violent in Jamshedpur

Women and children among over a dozen injured in an attack for not giving Holi donations

A dispute over Holi donations escalates into a violent attack in Burmamines, Jamshedpur, injuring several residents.

JAMSHEDPUR – A violent altercation erupted near Burmamines Carriage Colony Ram Mandir, under the jurisdiction of Burmamines police station, when a group of individuals attacked residents for not contributing donations for Holi celebrations.

The incident led to more than a dozen injuries, including women and a child, following a refusal to meet the attackers’ demands for donations, purportedly for purchasing liquor.

Among the injured were two women named Rinku Devi and Malti Devi, along with Munni Devi, Pooja, Kavita, Baby, and one-and-a-half-year-old Sania Kumari.

The confrontation began in the afternoon when a group, allegedly from the upper Tola, forcibly demanded donations exceeding Rs 50 from locals, resulting in violence when some residents expressed their inability to pay.

Manish, one of the residents, was initially targeted for refusing the donation, which escalated as his brothers Raja and Sunny Sharma attempted to intervene, leading to all three being severely beaten.

The situation intensified when 10 to 12 individuals returned to attack the colony residents with sticks and knives, causing widespread injuries.

Following the attack, the aggrieved residents of the colony demanded action against the perpetrators at the Burmamines police station, leading to all the injured being taken to MGM Hospital for treatment.

This incident has highlighted the tensions surrounding forced donations during festival times and the urgent need for community safety and legal action against such acts of violence.
