Irrigation Project in Giridih to Transform Jharkhand Agriculture

CM Soren launches ambitious Pirtand Mega Lift Irrigation scheme

Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Champai Soren initiates a pivotal irrigation project aimed at ensuring three crops annually for farmers, fostering agricultural and economic advancements.

GIRIDIH – Champai Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, announced a significant initiative to supply water to farmers’ fields through pipelines, bolstering the economic standing of agricultural families in the region.

The government’s goal is for Jharkhand’s farmers to harvest three crops each year.

Soren laid the foundation for the Pirtand Mega Lift Irrigation Project in Giridih district on Sunday.

This project, costing an estimated Rs 639.20 crore, aims to irrigate 8,531 hectares and benefit 1,09,515 individuals across 17 panchayats.

A weir/barrage will be constructed on the Barakar river near Dudhnia village, facilitating piped water irrigation with pump motors.

The project is slated for completion within three years.

"The previous administration introduced various initiatives for statewide development," Soren stated.

He highlighted efforts to improve rural economic conditions and the introduction of a universal pension scheme with reduced eligibility ages for women, tribals, and Dalits.

Soren critiqued the opposition for their attempts to destabilize the current government since its inception in 2019.

He accused the former "double-engine" government of neglecting state development in favor of mining profits, allegedly used to benefit other states.

"The progress under Hemant Soren’s leadership has been met with unwarranted opposition," Soren remarked, alleging political motives behind legal challenges faced by the former Chief Minister.
