Tata Steel UISL Showcases Innovation at TechEX 2024

"Prarup Team’s Core Cutter Revolutionizes Structural Health Assessment"

Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (UISL) marks a significant milestone at the Technical Exhibition with its innovative solution for concrete core cutting.

JAMSHEDPUR – At the recent Technical Exhibition held at SNTI from March 2 to March 5, 2024, Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (UISL) stood out with its Quality Circle Team “Prarup,” introducing an advanced project titled “Improvement on concrete core cutting machine to reduce frequent damage of core samples for structural health assessment.”

The team identified a common problem in structural health assessments—the frequent occurrence of cracks in cylindrical concrete core samples, making them unsuitable for testing.

Through rigorous study and analysis, “Prarup” pinpointed the root cause: the discontinuous supply of water during the cutting process.

Their solution, an innovative automated water supply system, ensures a continuous, uniform supply of water, significantly reducing sample damage.

This system, featuring a portable water container with an in-built pump and rechargeable battery, not only improves core sample quality but also maintains structural integrity by eliminating repetitive cutting.

The “Prarup” team’s breakthrough at TechEX 2024 underscores Tata Steel UISL’s commitment to enhancing structural health assessment methods, showcasing their innovative spirit and technical prowess in concrete core cutting technology.

Enhancing Efficiency and Productivity

The "Prarup" team’s solution to the persistent issue of core sample damage during cutting processes signifies a leap in structural health assessment techniques.

By integrating an automated water supply system, the team has substantially mitigated the risk of cracks in the core samples, ensuring higher quality and reliability for structural evaluations.

Revolutionary Impact on Structural Integrity

This innovation not only elevates the precision of structural health assessments but also contributes to the sustainability of structures by preventing unnecessary intrusions.

The portable, battery-powered water supply system introduced by "Prarup" marks a significant advancement in core cutting technology, promising to extend the lifespan of core cutters and streamline the assessment process.
