Jharkhand Set for Rajya Sabha Polls on March 21

March 21 fixed for crucial Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand, political circles buzz with candidate speculation.

The Election Commission of India has scheduled Rajya Sabha elections for two key seats in Jharkhand on March 21, as per the notification issued on March 4. This announcement has kickstarted the electoral process, positioning the state at the center of political strategizing as parties aim to secure their representation in the Upper House.

RANCHI – Elections for two crucial Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand are marked for March 21, with the Election Commission issuing the formal notification.

Candidates must file their nominations by March 11, following the guidelines outlined in the notification.

The scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 12, and candidates can withdraw their nominations by March 14.

The Secretary-cum-Electoral Officer’s office in the Jharkhand Assembly has been prepped as the nomination site.

Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar, overseeing these elections, noted that a decision on conducting voting will be made post-nomination phase.

Voting will proceed if the candidate count exceeds two, with vote counting scheduled for the same day.

Election Preparations

With the election date set, the Jharkhand Assembly’s office of the Secretary-cum-Electoral Officer is ready for nominations.

Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar highlighted that voting would only occur if more than two candidates are nominated, ensuring a competitive electoral process.

This approach aims to streamline the election, with vote counting planned for the election day itself, emphasizing the efficiency of the electoral procedure in Jharkhand.

BJP’s Candidature Conundrum

As the tenure of Dheeraj Prasad Sahu of Congress and Sameer Udaon of BJP approaches its end on May 3, the BJP is in a strategic huddle, contemplating its candidates to contest the elections. While the party’s state president Babulal Marandi deferred the candidate announcement to the central leadership, names such as Asha Lakra, Balmukund Sahay, and Pradeep Verma are being discussed internally. An imminent NDA Legislative Party meeting is expected to solidify the BJP’s strategy, underscoring the significance of these elections in shaping Jharkhand’s political landscape.
