Jharkhand Conducts Statewide Flood Rescue Mock Drill

Disaster Management Dept. Tests Flood Response Across Jharkhand with Major Drill

Jharkhand’s disaster management department conducted a comprehensive mock drill across 24 districts, including Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi, to bolster flood rescue operations and inter-departmental coordination.

RANCHI – In a proactive step towards disaster preparedness, Jharkhand’s state disaster management department organized an extensive mock drill simulating flood rescue operations across all 24 districts, focusing on Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi.

The exercise, under the guidance of Brigadier Birendra Thakar from the National Disaster Management Authority, aimed to fine-tune the coordination and effectiveness of various departments during flood emergencies.

Birendra Thakar emphasized the drill’s objective to minimize loss of life and property while ensuring comprehensive readiness for any disaster.

Rakesh Kumar, the Deputy Secretary of the disaster management department, highlighted the importance of inter-departmental synergy during disasters, focusing on rescue, rehabilitation, and infrastructure restoration.

The mock drill demonstrated two key rescue methods – dry and wet rescue – by the NDRF team, showcasing strategies to efficiently extract individuals trapped in floodwaters.

In addition, medical teams participated, providing demonstrations on delivering immediate medical care to rescued individuals.

This drill was a practical application of the adage ‘the more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war,’ underscoring the department’s commitment to ongoing preparedness and training.
