Seraikela DC and SP Review Chhath Preparations ; Baba Kuti Ghat Declared Danger Zone

Adityapur’s Chhath Ghats Under Scrutiny, Baba Kuti Ghat’s Safety Concerns Raised

Seraikela DC and SP inspect Chhath Ghats in Adityapur, emphasizing cleanliness, parking, and safety.

ADITYAPUR – The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police conducted a thorough review of the Chhath Ghats from Gamharia to Adityapur on Saturday, in preparation for the upcoming Chhath festival, a significant event in the region’s cultural calendar.

During the inspection, they directed administrative officers to urgently improve cleanliness and parking facilities at the Ghats.

Particular attention was given to Kulupatanga Chhath Ghat, where the Deputy Commissioner ordered an immediate cleanup of the dirty water flow and the surrounding filth, along with an enhancement of the parking system.

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order and urged coordination with local committees.

The inspection team, which included various political and social organization representatives and the current Mayor of Adityapur Municipal Corporation, Vinod Kumar Srivastava, later visited Baba Kuti Chhath Ghat.

For the third consecutive year, this Ghat has been declared a danger zone, sparking local opposition.

Despite the controversy, the Deputy Commissioner maintained that administrative permission for observing Chhath rituals at this Ghat could not be granted due to safety concerns.

The locals expressed their dilemma, as around 1,500 devotees traditionally gather at this site, which, despite a Rs. 65 lakh construction, remains inaugurated and perilously unsafe – a situation that hints at municipal corruption.

Following the departure of the Deputy Commissioner, fasting women at the site confronted SDO Parul Singh, expressing their concerns.

The SDO assured that a thorough investigation into the matter would be conducted after the festival.

He also instructed the Municipal Corporation to make alternative arrangements for the devotees.

SP Dr. Vimal Kumar confirmed that adequate security measures would be implemented, and special traffic rules would be established to facilitate a smooth and safe festival experience for the devotees.
