XLRI Jamshedpur Honors Father of Indian Library Science Dr. S. R. Ranganathan

Jamshedpur’s XLRI celebrates the contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan to Library Science with a special event, emphasizing the importance of books in human life.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Father of Indian Library Science, Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, was remembered at XLRI Xavier School of Management in Jamshedpur.

A program was organized in his memory at the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library of the institute.

Father S George, SJ, Director of XLRI, was present as the chief guest.

He, Dean Academics Prof. Sanjay Patro, and other professors, started the program by garlanding the picture of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan.

After this, Director Father S. George addressed everyone and apprised them about the importance of books, emphasizing that books and libraries have an essential contribution to the life of every human being.

He called upon everyone to make books their friends.

The Institutional Repository developed by the library was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Along with this, the winner of the quiz held on the last two August 2023 was rewarded.

Earlier, Shabnam Ansari gave a welcome speech, in which she welcomed the guests and shed light on the career journey of Dr. SR Ranganathan.

On the occasion, Abuzar Hussain and Sawan Kumar Prasad demonstrated the newly launched Institutional Repository designed with DSpace software.

Dean Academics Prof. Sanjay Patro shared his views about the library and its functionality.

He praised the library team for their service and also congratulated the faculty, staff members, scholars, and students who had gathered for this formal function.

He launched a video of the virtual tour of the library.
