Rural Jamshedpur Residents Protest Construction of Multi-Storey Buildings

Jamshedpur villagers rally against multi-storey buildings, demanding respect for rural areas and traditional lifestyles.

JAMSHEDPUR – Residents of Puri Hasa village in rural Jamshedpur held a major protest march against the construction of high-rise buildings in their area.

The villagers, concerned about the drastic changes these structures will bring to their rural lifestyle, rallied throughout Sundar Nagar, vowing to intensify their protest if the construction is not halted.

Seeing the rise of large apartments in their rural communities has driven the villagers to strategize how they can stop these developments.

By organizing gram sabhas (village meetings) across various areas, they aim to put a stop to the construction work.

Men, women, and children alike took to the streets, holding placards to voice their dissent.

The rally started at Puri Hasa Sundernagar, moved via Tilka Chowk and Puri Hasa Arena, passed through Jaduguda Chowk, and concluded back at Tilka Chowk.

Majhi Baba, a local informant, stated that the entire Hasa gram sabha falls under the fifth schedule.

However, despite this, massive apartments are being erected in violation of the gram sabha rules.

To stop this construction, villagers staged a protest march.

He pointed out that currently, permissions for these constructions are being granted via Zilla Parishad signatures, a practice he deems utterly incorrect.

He warned that if the construction continues, villagers are prepared to take their protests from the roads to individual houses.
