Shooters Convicted in Upender Singh’s 2016 Murder Case

Two Convicted in Jamshedpur’s High-Profile 2016 Murder Case, Verdict Awaited

JAMSHEDPUR – The court of the first additional district judge delivered a partial verdict in the 2016 Upender Singh murder case on Saturday.

Two of the seven accused, namely shooters Sonu Singh, also known as Vicky, and Vinod Singh, also known as Mogli, were pronounced guilty.

Meanwhile, gangster Akhilesh Singh, along with Sanjay Jojo, Ajay Yadav, Pankaj Singh, and Avinash Shrivastav, were acquitted.

This high-profile case, filed with the Sitaramdera police station, recorded 26 testimonies from prosecution witnesses.

The final sentencing will be decided in a hearing scheduled for August 14.

The case dates back to November 30, 2016, when transporter Upender Singh, 54, was shot dead on the second floor of the Jamshedpur Bar Association building.

The incident took place in the late afternoon, in the vicinity of the Sitaramdera police station, while the transporter was in a conversation with his lawyer.

Two assailants opened fire on him from a close range, later identified as Vicky and Mogli.

People present at the scene promptly subdued the shooters.

According to the prosecution, Vicky and Mogli were reportedly on the payroll of mobster Akhilesh Singh.

However, it is believed that Harish Singh, an associate of the criminal currently incarcerated in Dumka Central Prison, orchestrated the killing.

Harish Singh, who remains at large, allegedly oversaw the crime scene and communicated with the gangster over the phone during the execution of the murder.

It is worth noting that the court has already sentenced Vicky and Mogli to three years’ probation previously for their involvement in the murder case of Upender Singh under the Arms Act.
