The Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Jamshedpur forge a partnership to enhance research opportunities and knowledge exchange.
JAMSHEDPUR – A significant partnership is unfolding between the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Jamshedpur and the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) in Kolkata.
Sunil Kumar Bhagat, spokesperson at NIT Jamshedpur, has highlighted the importance of this alliance, which is set to have a substantial impact on the research landscape.
Several eminent scientists from CGCRI attended the meeting in Kolkata, expressing their enthusiasm for the collaboration.
The alliance will create a powerful conduit for knowledge sharing between the two premier institutes, which are both well-respected in their respective fields.
CGCRI, renowned globally in sectors such as electronics, glass fiber composite manufacturing, and telecommunications, has previously undertaken extensive research in areas that include foam glass, glass-bonded mica, refractories for steel plants, and specialty ceramic materials. The institute’s work with local clay in pottery production has been transformative for local artisans.
This partnership promises to foster competence in cutting-edge technologies and advancements among students and researchers from both institutions through active participation in joint initiatives. Information sharing on research findings, experiences, and technology will be made seamless between CGCRI-Kolkata and NIT-Jamshedpur.
Part of the arrangement will involve M.Tech. students and Ph.D. scholars from NIT-Jamshedpur receiving guidance from CGCRI experts, bolstering their research opportunities. Both institutes will provide internship opportunities for research fellows and students at each other’s organizations, using a cross-learning strategy to fully utilize their respective resources and expertise.
The research areas they intend to explore together include the creation of optical glasses, advances in glass and ceramics technology, basic research on glass evaluations, and studies on laser glass, among others. This collaboration further bolsters CGCRI’s esteemed position in the scientific community.
A joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will soon be signed by CGCRI-Kolkata and NIT-Jamshedpur to formalize their partnership and commitment to research collaboration.
The inaugural meeting was held at the CGCRI Headquarters in Kolkata, presided over by Professor (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, Director of NIT-Jamshedpur, and Dr. Suman Kumari Mishra, Director of CGCRI-Kolkata, affirming their commitment to cooperation in the realms of research and innovation.
