Adityapur Anti-encroachment Drive: Railways demolish at least 40 houses in Rajeev Nagar

Adityapur: The railway administration demolished more than 40 houses in Rajeev Nagar Wednesday in the presence of security forces in large numbers.

This stretch of the railway land had been encroached for years.

The railway administration had issued notices to the residents of the bustee three times earlier.

The encroached railway land falls under the jurisdiction of RIT police station in Seraikela district.

Prior to this, however, the Railways had issued three notices to residents.

The encroachment was razed to the ground and the possession of the land was taken over by the Railways in the presence of the Railway Protection Force and District Police.

Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Adityapur IOW officer in charge of the anti-encroachment campaign,

stated that two more lanes are to be laid, and for this land has to be vacated from Adityapur railway station to the railway overbridge.

He said that the notice to vacate the railway land had already been issued and many people had voluntarily vacated their encroachment.

However, some people were obstinate and did not comply and therefore were removed.

The destruction of dwelling units amid bitter and cold winter season has rendered 40 families homeless.

Needless to say the locals are not happy with this step of the railway administration.
