Tata steel pays homage to its Founder J N Tata on his 182nd birth anniversary

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel paid homage to its Founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 182nd Birth Anniversary. Present on the occasion were Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman Tata Sons, T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director and CFO, Tata Steel, Vice Presidents of Tata Steel, Union office bearers, and other dignitaries.

Homage to the founder was paid by over 30 contingents representing various divisions and departments of Tata Steel and Tata Steel group companies at the Works Main Gate inside the Tata Steel premises.

This year, the celebrations were subdued in view of COVID-19. However, the spirit to pay homage to the Founder was intact and there were few programmes organised with limited physical participation to mark the occasion. The Founder’s Day celebrations at Jamshedpur Works was also live streamed for employees as well as for a select group of Jamshedpur citizens.

In his address to the citizens of Jamshedpur at Bistupur Postal Park, N Chandrasekaran wished the people of Jamshedpur on the occasion and congratulated them for their collective resolve and commitment to a better tomorrow. He said, “The last 12 months have been very difficult, challenging and all of us have gone through some kind of hardships. In spite of all that, both Tata Steel and the citizens of Jamshedpur have come together, worked together, to fight this pandemic in the most befitting way.”

N Chandrasekaran mentioned that the Tata Group under the leadership of Ratan Tata committed significant financial resources and engaged in a number of activities to aid in food, healthcare, etc. in this past year. He wholeheartedly thanked the frontline workers, TMH staff, the CSR team and every citizen of Jamshedpur for actively playing their role in safeguarding the workers and the community.

On March 2, 2021, the Academy Building of Naval Tata Hockey Academy, GraphITI Centre at the Indian Steel and Wire Products Limited, and Tata Steel Gateway Structure at Telephone Exchange Gate in Jamshedpur, were inaugurated by Ratan Tata and N Chandrasekaran in the presence of T V Narendran.

On the eve of Founder’s Day, the illumination at the Founder’s Statue in Jubilee Park was inaugurated by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, where he along with other dignitaries also paid homage to the Founder. In view of the pandemic, there was limited lighting of the Park to avoid public gathering. Over a dozen heritage buildings and 30 plus roundabouts across Jamshedpur will be illuminated for the period – March 2 to March 5, 2021.

Like previous years, an exhibition at Steelenium Hall inside Jamshedpur Works was also organised. This year’s exhibition was on the theme “Accelerating to the future: Learning from the pandemic and pioneering a new operating paradigm”. Shining cases on the journey of Tata Steel including aspects of technology leadership, organisational agility and more that have enabled the Company to pioneer a new operating paradigm, were displayed by various departments and divisions of Tata Steel.

In view of the pandemic, the sporting activities at JRD Sports Complex was also be restricted to “no contact” sports like running, long jump and race walk.

The theme of this year’s Founder’s Day was “Agile today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”. Successful organisations including Tata Steel have acknowledged the critical need for agility in workplace culture and environment. Agility has been always at the forefront and a key attribute for leaders as well as employees to adapt and effect change swiftly. Tata Steel has built an ecosystem that enables employees and stakeholders to explore new horizons, learn from failures while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. These endeavours have enabled institutions like Tata Steel to become sustainable over time.
