Coronavirus on retreat in Jamshedpur, no deaths on Thursday

Wearing masks, avoiding crowding, social distancing more important now

Jamshedpur: Coronavirus is definitely receding in its fury in Jamshedpur too. The trends shown by the daily data do confirm a decline on all fronts as far as the menace of virus is concerned. On Thursday, no deaths were reported due to the virus in East Singhbhum district as the total death toll remained stable at 345.

According to official data, a total of 2,68,195 samples have been tested in the district till Thursday. Out of these, 15,470 samples have tested positive, while 2,52,725 samples have tested negative.

The total number of infected cases in the district has risen up to 15,470. However, out of these, 13,938 patients have already been cured and discharged. While, 345 persons have succumbed to the virus, the district now has 1,187 active cases of coronavirus infection.

The recovery rate for the district has reached 90%, while the mortality rate at 2.2 pc is still higher than the national and state average. Positivity rate is 5.8% for the district.

While, the virus certainly seems to be retreating in the city, this may prove an illusion if the citizens do not continue with social distancing measures. As the experts have been reminding again and again, this virus has a tendency to attack in waves. While the city certainly seems to have crossed the peak of the first wave, there is always a threat of a second and third wave coming and overwhelming the city, which can prove even more or equally damaging than the first one.

In the first wave itself, the city has lost 345 lives. And if social distancing measures are not continued with, more lives may be put in danger.
