However, this was not done easily as they had to face the wrath of protesting locals.

A large contingent of police force along with SDM and other police officers reached Swarnarekha Burning Ghat at Bhuiyandih at around 9 a.m. in the morning.

As soon as the administration team arrived with the dead bodies of corona patients, the locals started opposing the cremation.

They were claiming that cremating the bodies amidst a densely populated bustee would help spread the disease among the local population.

They were insisting that an alternative site be found for cremation of such patients.

However, the district administration officers clarified that since electric crematorium was not available elsewhere, the bodies would be cremated there and there is no chance of it causing any sort of risk to the local population. But, the locals remained adamant. And when the policemen started to forcibly remove them, they started pelting stones. Two lady constables were injured in stone pelting and they were rushed to hospital for treatment.

The police lathicharged the protestors and got the two dead bodies cremated.

Police have arrested two persons for creating ruckus and a move is on to lodge an FIR in the case naming many others responsible for creating the ruckus.

It may be recalled that an 88-year-old woman patient had died of Corona yesterday in TMH soon after a 71-year-old resident of Sonari succumbed to the disease.
