Kunal Sarangi expresses concern over B.Tech final year fee hike in KU

Jamshedpur: Several Kolhan University students pursuing B.Tech (semester VIII) studies have accused the varsity officials of increasing examination fee by 50 per cent.

Reacting to the notification issued in this regard by KU, some of the students complained to former Baharagora MLA and BJP leader Kunal Sarangi.

Taking note of the concern raised by the students, Sarangi questioned the move in a tweet to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Higher Education Secretary.

¨The university has increased the exam fee of B.Tech final year students 1.5 times. Many students have approached me. Also, the notification does not contain any mention of the examination venue. This has put the students in doubt which should be cleared. The classes for semester VIII have not been conducted. In such a situation, charging Rs 2450 as exam fee is not beyond oneś understanding,¨ he said.

Asked about the matter, KU Examination Controller Dr PK Pani said the examination venue has not been finalized as yet. But wherever the exams are held, COVID-19 precautionary measures would be followed, he said.

¨As far as exam fee increase is concerned, it is not true. Since it is the last semester exam, several certificates are to be given to the students. All such fees have been included in the exam fee,¨ said Pani.

Pani further said if the classes have not been held, the students are not eligible to take the exam.
