Saryu Roy urges CM to allow reopening of hotels and salons

Jamshedpur: Saryu Roy, MLA, East Singhbhum has urged the Chief Minister Hemant Soren to remove lockdown restrictions from hotels and restaurants as well as salons and barber services in the state.

In a tweet which was tagged to the Chief Minister Hemant Soren too, he said that very few hotels and restaurants have centralised air-conditioning system in Jharkhand. More than 95% of the hotels use window or split air-conditioners.

He said that in view of the directives of the home ministry, these businesses should be freed from lock-down restriction.

He also mentioned that the decision of the state government to not provide any relief to the salons has made the barber community unhappy.

Barbers and people associated with beauty parlours have been demanding that the state government allow them to operate, albeit with safety precautions.

On Thursday last, a large number of barbers, salon workers and beauticians had taken out a procession in Jamshedpur and pressed for immediate permission to re-open their businesses.

They had also met the Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla and submitted a memorandum to him.

The demonstrators had claimed that they were facing a difficult time as their businesses have been singled out in the name of Corona pandemic, while most of other businesses have been allowed to open. They said that it is not only unfair to them, but would also prove bad for the economy.

They had claimed that there are lakhs of people who are directly dependent on grooming and beauty business and the government must have a sympathetic view about their livelihood.

Now that Saryu Roy too has come out in their support and pressed for re-opening of their business, they are likely to raise their concerns afresh.

However, there are many who feel that beauty and hotel sectors should not be allowed to operate fully as both may contribute to rapid spread of Covid-19.
