Tragic Shooting at Ranchi Weekly Market Claims Life

Villagers Demand Justice After Deadly Attack in Ranchi Market

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot at a weekly market, sparking widespread outrage and a six-hour blockade.

RANCHI – In a distressing turn of events in Ranchi’s Bedo area, a weekly vegetable market became the scene of a fatal shooting late Thursday evening, resulting in the death of Shankar Kachhap, a 30-year-old local resident.

The assailants, two individuals on a motorcycle, executed the attack from behind, targeting Kachhap as he was returning home with his brother-in-law, Sunil Tirkey, after purchasing vegetables.

The sound of gunfire led to Tirkey discovering Kachhap and his motorcycle on the ground.

Immediate efforts to get medical help from nearby villagers, who rushed Kachhap to Bedo Community Health Centre, were in vain as he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The murder prompted a significant uproar within the community, culminating in a blockade at Mahavir Chowk as villagers demanded swift justice, compensation, and support for the deceased’s family.

The protest saw the mobilization of local officials and political representatives in an attempt to pacify the crowd and address their demands, leading to a prolonged standoff that lasted for approximately six hours.

The administration has been urged to enhance security measures in the area, including the installation of CCTV cameras and street lighting at key intersections, to prevent such incidents in the future.

The investigation into the murder of Shankar Kachhap is ongoing, with authorities yet to determine the motive behind the attack.
