India’s First Giloy Research Center Opens at Birsa Agricultural University

The first Giloy research and processing center in India, aimed at promoting the medicinal plant’s commercial use and benefiting farmers, has been inaugurated at Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi.

RANCHI – India’s first-ever center for processing and research on the medicinal plant Giloy has been established at Birsa Agricultural University in Ranchi.

Governor CP Radhakrishnan formally inaugurated the center on Monday.

Among the attendees were Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh and Kanke MLA Samri Lal.

Speaking at the event, CP Radhakrishnan described the center as a significant achievement for Birsa Agricultural University.

He expressed optimism that the center would pave the way for Giloy’s commercial use, thereby benefiting farmers.

The center was set up in collaboration with the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand, under the Centrally Sponsored National Agricultural Development Project.

Giloy, known for its immunity-boosting properties, was widely used during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its potency against life-threatening fevers like dengue, swine flu, and malaria has been confirmed by research.

A long-established component of Ayurveda and herbal medicine, Giloy’s cultivation will now be promoted among farmers across 16 districts in the state through the newly established center.
