Tata Steel UISL Steps Up Dengue Prevention and Control Measures in Jamshedpur

Tata Steel UISL division has launched a multi-pronged strategy to control dengue and other vector-borne diseases in Jamshedpur, with actions including house-to-house surveillance and awareness campaigns.

JAMSHEDPUR – As the monsoon season brings with it an increased risk of dengue and other vector-borne diseases, Tata Steel Urban Infrastructure Services Limited (UISL) has launched a comprehensive strategy in Jamshedpur to help control the spread.

Tata Steel UISL’s commitment to public health and safety is evident in these proactive measures.

Part of this comprehensive plan involves rigorous house-to-house surveillance, where trained teams inspect residences to identify and eliminate mosquito larval breeding sites.

Over 180,062 houses were covered from April to June this year, and mosquito larvae were found in 4,193 of these houses. The identified breeding sites were promptly eliminated and followed up with cold fogging activities.

Moreover, the company has also initiated an extensive search for outdoor breeding sites for culex mosquitoes.

This includes areas of stagnant water, drains, ditches, and riverbeds. Between April and June, a total of 8,992 potential outdoor breeding sites were destroyed and sprayed to halt the growth of the mosquito population.

In a further bid to manage the risk, Tata Steel UISL has expanded its surveillance efforts to include closed quarters within the company area.

This is designed to identify potential breeding grounds within the population’s closed and silent breeding sites.

Another key aspect of the company’s strategy is fogging.

This is performed in areas where mosquito larvae breeding has been detected, alongside regular scheduled fogging in the city. This approach effectively targets the adult mosquito population and reduces the risk of dengue transmission.

Collaboration with local hospitals TMH and MGM has also been established by Tata Steel UISL for disease surveillance.

This partnership allows for a rapid response to reported cases of dengue and other vector-borne diseases, which aids in controlling the potential spread of the disease.

Raising public awareness is another significant part of this strategy.

Tata Steel UISL is conducting awareness campaigns in schools and colleges, informing students, teachers, and the wider community about dengue prevention measures and the need to maintain a mosquito-free environment.
