Jamshedpur: The National Hawker Federation Jamshedpur unit has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhavt, demanding proper settlement of street vendors in the city.
The Federation claims that the law made in the year 2014 to resettle street vendors is not being followed in Jamshedpur.
According to the federation, in the past few days, approximately 120 shops were demolished in the Mango area during the night, but street vendors have not been resettled.
The federation claims that only a market of 26 shops has been earmarked in the name of resettling street vendors, and these shops are being allotted in a biased manner. Other shopkeepers are being asked to set up shops elsewhere.
The National Hawker Federation Jamshedpur General Secretary, Uttam Chakraborty, expressed disappointment that the policy of first settling and then evicting shopkeepers is not being followed in the city.
The federation has now decided to go to court to demand the rights of street vendors.
The federation said that it would highlight the challenges faced by street vendors in the city and the need for a fair and transparent system to protect their rights.
Mr. Chakraborty said that the street vendors play a crucial role in the local economy, and it is essential to ensure that their rights are protected and that they are treated with dignity and respect.
He said that the administration must take note of the federation’s concerns and take appropriate action to ensure that the law for the resettlement of street vendors is followed.
