JAMSHEDPUR – A major road accident was narrowly averted near Mango Golchakkar in the Mango police station area on Wednesday evening after a passenger bus lost control and ran over two parked motorcycles. The bus, named Shankar Parvati and travelling from Tata to Bhagalpur, crushed the two bikes parked near Sindhi Hotel on Pardih Road before coming to a stop, triggering panic at the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus had left the Mango bus stand and was heading toward Dimna Chowk via Mango Chowk when its brakes suddenly failed. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which then swerved toward Pardih Road and struck the two motorcycles parked along the roadside.
No passenger or bystander suffered serious injuries in the incident, averting what could have been a major accident. However, some passengers aboard the bus sustained minor injuries and were sent to hospital for first aid. The damaged motorcycles remained trapped under the bus after the crash.
Mango police reached the spot soon after being alerted and began relief and rescue operations. Officers worked to control the crowd that gathered at the site and restore normal traffic movement in the area, which remained congested for some time after the accident.
Locals said the accident was extremely frightening and could have caused significant casualties had more people been present on the road at the time. Police are currently investigating the matter, including the technical aspects related to the bus’s brake failure.
The incident adds to a string of recent road accidents in the district, including one near Rapcha More on the Tata-Kandra road that left two people seriously injured, and another horrific crash in Adityapur that left two people critically hurt and undergoing treatment at TMH.
