Accused Nabbed From Lahri Tola, Cash and Cigarettes Recovered

SARAIKELA – Police here solved a shop burglary case within 24 hours of the crime and arrested the accused from Lahri Tola locality. The break-in had taken place at the grocery shop of Rabbu Agarwal near Kaluram Chowk on Saturday night, when miscreants broke through the rear wall and made off with cash and goods, including cigarette packets.
Saraikela police station in-charge Vinay Kumar told reporters that Saraikela police acted swiftly on the tip and arrested Sajid Khan, alias Munna Khan, a resident of Lahri Tola. He said the accused had squeezed through a small hole in the wall to enter the shop, leaving injury marks on his body.
Officers recovered 18,600 rupees in cash along with cigarette stock and other stolen items based on the accused’s disclosure. However, investigators also found that Sajid had separately broken into a flour mill located in front of the same shop, and a coin stolen from that mill was recovered as well.
The operation followed instructions from the superintendent of police and was carried out on secret information at Lahri Tola. From the accused’s ancestral home, police seized 157 cigarette packets and seven bottles of oil. Moreover, a search of his rented house behind Rajabari yielded 18,600 rupees in 500 and 50-rupee notes, along with 736 rupees in loose change kept in a plastic pouch. Eight silver-coloured coins and tools used in the burglary were also recovered from the same location.
“The accused has a prior criminal case registered against him at this police station,” Kumar said, adding that the raid team included Sub-Inspector Saurabh Kumar Ahuja, Sub-Inspector Arun Kumar Mahato, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rishi Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar and Constable Rajesh Oraon. The case comes amid a string of similar thefts reported recently in the region, including stolen jewellery worth five lakh rupees recovered earlier this month and a stolen bike recovery in which two accused were held. Police in the area had also cracked a stolen tractor case after a four-month search earlier this year.
