SERAIKELA – A labourer died and several others suffered minor injuries after a speeding trailer rammed into a bamboo-laden truck parked by the roadside in the Rajnagar police station area of Seraikela district. The accident occurred around one o’clock late on Sunday night.
The collision took place near a Honda showroom, roughly 500 metres from the Rajnagar police station. According to reports, a truck loaded with bamboo had been parked along the roadside at the time.
Labourers were in the process of untying ropes to unload the bamboo from the truck when the incident occurred. A speeding trailer, bearing registration number JH10DJ 4827, struck the truck from behind with tremendous force.
The impact was severe enough that labourers standing near the truck were caught in its path. Neelkanth Jana, a resident of Bhandarsol in the Baharagora police station area, died at the scene as a result of the collision.
Other labourers present at the spot sustained only minor injuries in the accident. Rajnagar police reached the site soon after being informed and assessed the situation.
Officers subsequently took both vehicles into custody along with the deceased’s body. Meanwhile, the trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, and a search for him is now underway.
The victim’s family members arrived at the accident site around nine o’clock on Sunday morning. Police then sent the body to Seraikela for a post-mortem examination.
The family has been left in mourning following the incident. Relatives have demanded adequate compensation from the trailer owner, along with action against the driver responsible.
They have also appealed to the administration to ensure justice for the grieving family. Similar fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles have been reported elsewhere in the Kolhan region in recent days, including a collision involving an ethanol tanker on NH-33 near Chandil.
Police are continuing their search for the trailer driver, who remains at large.
