Plot for Major Crime at Nagadih Ground Foiled, Two Held With Loaded Pistol

Police arrest two with country-made pistol and cartridges in Bagbera

Key Points:

  • Tip-off leads police to Nagadih ground late Monday night
  • Mangal Tudu and Samresh Ravidas held with weapon, scooter
  • Mangal Tudu has prior criminal history, police say

JAMSHEDPUR – Police foiled what they describe as a plan for a major criminal incident at Nagadih ground in the Bagbera police station area on Monday night. Officers said they received a tip around 11:50 pm on June 21 that several people with criminal backgrounds had gathered at the ground to plot a significant crime.

The information was passed up to senior officers as soon as it came in. On instructions from the senior superintendent of police, a special raiding team was formed under the guidance of the superintendent of police (rural) and led by the deputy superintendent of police (law and order).

The team acted quickly and raided the ground, arresting two suspects on the spot. Officers identified them as Mangal Tudu, alias Mangal Manjhi, 46, and Samresh Ravidas, alias Mithun, 34.

Tudu is a resident of Ichhapur Upar Tola in Adityapur-2, under RIT police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Ravidas lives in Kerwadungri under the Sundarnagar police station area of East Singhbhum district.

Police recovered a loaded country-made pistol, five live cartridges, a mobile phone and a scooter from the duo. The weapon and other seized items have been taken into custody.

A case has been registered at Bagbera police station under relevant sections. Investigators are now questioning both men to determine the nature of the crime they were allegedly preparing to commit and to identify any other associates involved.

Police further said Tudu has a prior criminal history, which is also being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The arrest comes weeks after a separate operation in Jugsalai, where police picked up six members of an alleged gang on firing-case charges and recovered weapons along with a vehicle. Jamshedpur police have also made several other weapons recoveries in recent weeks, including a country-made pistol and cartridges seized from a teenager near Parvati Ghat in Bistupur and four accused arrested in a firing case in Kadma.
