87 Players From 16 Units Compete In Tournament’s Latest Edition

JAMSHEDPUR – The Inter Divisional Chess Tournament 2026, organised by Tata Steel Limited, concluded on Friday with a closing ceremony and prize distribution function. The competition saw participation from 87 players representing 16 units across the company, including three female competitors.
Das Bhola Nath of TSUISL emerged as the overall winner of the tournament. Abhishek Jha of TSJ Operations finished as runner-up, while Sanjay Kumar Swain of TSK secured the position of second runner-up. The event was conducted under the supervision of five officials who oversaw proceedings throughout the tournament.
Hitesh Hasmukhrai Shah, Chief of LD3 and TSCR at Tata Steel Limited, attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners. Vivek Kudva, Head of Mechanical Maintenance at the Sinter Plant, was present as guest of honour for the occasion.
Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief of Sports at Tata Steel, and Capt. Manish Sinha, Head of Events and Training Centres, also attended the ceremony. Both officials praised the competitive spirit shown by the participants during the tournament.
The smooth conduct of the event was credited to a team of officials comprising Jayant Kumar Bhuyan, Soukhin Kundu, Deepak Kumar Jha, Anup Kumar Singh, and Tilak Ram Sahu. Their efforts were acknowledged for ensuring fairness throughout the competition.
Chess has featured among the recreational and competitive activities promoted internally at Tata Steel, with company units periodically organising similar tournaments alongside sporting and cultural events for employees across divisions.
