Jharkhand High Court Questions Chatra Police

Bench Seeks SP’s Reply Over Minor’s Detention

Key Points:

  • Court Flags Alleged Illegal Detention of Student
  • SP Asked to Explain Police Action
  • Hearing Scheduled for February 27

RANCHI – The Jharkhand High Court questioned Chatra police over the alleged illegal detention of a matriculation student and sought an explanation from the district superintendent.

The Jharkhand High Court took serious note of the petition on Monday. The case concerns a minor student in Chatra district.

The petition alleged unlawful custody for nearly 10 days. However, the student was reportedly not produced before a magistrate.

The bench asked why legal procedures were not followed. It sought clarification from Chatra Superintendent of Police Sumit Agrawal.

The court demanded details on the detention circumstances. Moreover, it asked about action against responsible officials.

Judges observed that due process safeguards citizens’ rights. In contrast, any deviation weakens public trust.

The bench emphasized strict compliance with legal norms. Meanwhile, it highlighted protection of minors’ rights.

The court said police must maintain a positive public image. It stressed transparency and accountability in law enforcement.

The matter has been listed for February 27. The court will review the police response then.

The High Court has earlier intervened in governance matters. Recently, a High Court internet case examined administrative action.

In another instance, the illegal construction probe followed court directions.

The Chatra case will now proceed after submissions. Further directions may follow upon review.
