DHANBAD – Hundreds of villagers staged a massive protest Friday against pollution from coal mining in Dhanbad‘s Kenduadih and Putki areas.

The Paryavaran Bachao Sangharsh Samiti organized the demonstration. Protesters marched from Kachhi Balihari to Nehru Park. The procession transformed into a day-long dharna.

Demonstrators raised slogans against BCCL management at the site. Dumri MLA Jayram Mahto attended the protest program. Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha also joined the gathering.

Both legislators accused BCCL of violating norms. They stated coal excavation causes severe air pollution. Moreover, noise pollution levels have risen significantly in the region.

MLA Raj Sinha spoke with BCCL CMD Manoj Agarwal. The telephonic conversation addressed pollution concerns immediately. Agarwal directed the local GM to start water sprinkling.

Overburden dumping generates excessive pollution during operations. Sinha emphasized water spraying before OB removal. He stressed this measure as essential for residents.

The lawmakers issued a 36-hour ultimatum to BCCL. Failure to act will result in work stoppage. OB dumping operations face potential suspension if conditions persist.

BCCL must implement concrete pollution control measures immediately. Local residents demand compliance with environmental regulations. Furthermore, continuous monitoring of excavation sites becomes mandatory.

The protest highlights growing environmental concerns in mining areas. Villagers seek protection from health hazards caused by pollution. Administrative intervention remains crucial for sustainable mining practices.
