Saryu Roy Tours Sonari Basti Areas, Demands Nala Cleaning Plan

JNAC Must Create a Special Plan for Drain Cleaning: Saryu Roy

Key Points:

  • Saryu Roy visits Rupnagar, Nirmalnagar, and Zahira Basti areas
  • Residents complain of blocked drains, foul odor, and water supply issues
  • Roy to meet JUSCO officials on Monday and Tuesday for solutions

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy toured several areas in Sonari, including Rupnagar, Nirmalnagar A, B, C, and Zahira Basti on Saturday to address the residents’ grievances.

Complaints of Blocked Drains and Water Supply Issues

Hundreds of women gathered during Roy’s visit, highlighting their struggles with essential services. The primary issue reported was the lack of water supply. Residents revealed that while water pipes have been laid in some areas, connections have not been provided.

Roy was informed that Tata Steel UISL charges ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 for each water connection, which residents hope to get at an affordable rate.

Local residents also complained about severely blocked drains, causing water stagnation and unbearable foul odors. Areas like Mahua Apartment and Kakoli Apartment face waterlogging beneath buildings, creating unhygienic conditions.

Call for Immediate Action

Residents of Kalindi Basti and Zahira Basti pointed out that blocked drains have even obstructed pathways, including the road leading to Seven Number Station. Roy acknowledged these challenges and assured residents that he would push for solutions.

Meeting with JUSCO and JNAC

Roy announced plans to meet JUSCO officials on Monday and Tuesday to resolve the water supply and drainage issues. He also directed JNAC to develop a special plan for comprehensive drain cleaning and road repairs.

“Everyone has the right to a good quality of life,” Roy said, promising to ensure that the basti residents get the necessary amenities. He added that the long-pending problems must be addressed immediately.

Roy assured the residents that he would advocate for clean water connections and proper infrastructure improvements, emphasizing that their concerns would not be ignored any longer.
