PALAMU – The Governor has stripped Nilambar-Pitambar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Singh of all his administrative and financial powers following a special audit into the institution’s finances. He has also been directed to submit his resignation.
According to the order, if the Vice-Chancellor fails to resign through the prescribed process, he will be removed from his post through necessary proceedings.
The action follows findings from a special audit conducted against the Vice-Chancellor, along with complaints of financial and administrative irregularities received against him. The Governor had ordered the audit after complaints surfaced regarding financial irregularities at the university.
During the audit, officials found matters linked to financial discrepancies running into crores of rupees. The findings pointed to significant gaps in how university funds were managed under the current administration.
Besides the financial issues, the audit also uncovered appointments made to key posts, including that of controller of examinations, in violation of the Governor’s orders. These appointments were reportedly made without the required clearance from the Governor’s office.
Taking a serious view of both the financial irregularities and the unauthorised appointments, the Governor proceeded with the action against the Vice-Chancellor. The order effectively removes his control over the university’s day-to-day administrative and financial functions with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the university is expected to see interim administrative changes while the process for the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation or removal moves forward. The developments have drawn attention to governance practices at state universities in Palamu.
The move comes amid wider scrutiny of irregularities in Jharkhand’s education and recruitment systems, following cases such as the recruitment scam probe and the cancellation of a state-level exam by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
