GIRIDIH – A labourer suffered grievous injuries on Monday after unidentified assailants slit his throat with a sharp weapon in Simariyadhaura village, under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station. The attack has left the area in a state of fear.
The injured man has been identified as Mohammad Maksood, a resident of the village. According to his family, he was returning home after a day of labour work, following his usual routine. Family members said unidentified attackers had been lying in wait and struck him from behind, slitting his throat with the sharp-edged weapon.
The assailants fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack, leaving Maksood to collapse by the roadside. Word of the assault spread quickly through the village, and family members along with local residents rushed to the spot.
They transported him without delay to Sadar Hospital in Giridih. Doctors administered first aid there, but his condition was deemed too serious for the facility. He has since been referred to Dhanbad for advanced treatment.
Mufassil police station in-charge Shyam Kishore Mahto said no written complaint had been filed by the family as of Monday. He added that police are independently investigating the matter at their own level. Mahto said a First Information Report would be lodged once an application is received, after which officers would move to identify those responsible and pursue strict legal action against them.
Police said they are currently examining every angle of the case and have launched raids in search of the attackers. The motive behind the assault remains unclear, and no arrests had been made by Monday evening.
The attack adds to a series of violent crimes reported from Giridih district in recent weeks, where police have also been investigating cases involving sharp-weapon assaults and domestic violence.
