Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti Targets Railway Officials; Collected Signatures to Be Submitted to Authorities
Key Points:
- Signature campaign held at Tatanagar station over chronic train delays
- Trains running 2-3 hours late; workers, students, patients worst affected
- Collected signatures to be submitted to senior railway officials
JAMSHEDPUR – A signature campaign at Tatanagar railway station on Sunday drew hundreds of rail passengers who rallied against chronic train delays, with the Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti vowing to escalate its agitation if the situation does not improve.
The Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti organised the signature campaign at Tatanagar on Sunday. Passengers arriving at and departing from the station signed the petition. They recorded their grievances against persistent train irregularities.
The participants said daily disruptions to train schedules had become a serious ordeal. Workers, students, patients, and traders were said to be the worst-affected sections.
Saryu Roy and several other prominent citizens attended the event. They extended their support to the campaign.
Roy pointed out that a one-day sit-in demonstration had already been held outside Tatanagar station earlier, demanding punctual train operations. He said no concrete improvement had materialised since that protest.
“The railways must treat passenger train punctuality as a primary duty,” a participant said. “Right now, this basic responsibility is being ignored.”
Allegations were levelled against railway administration for negligence. Many trains were reported to be running with delays of two to three hours. These delays were said to be disrupting the plans and financial interests of thousands of commuters daily.
The railway administration’s response to earlier protests had been deemed unsatisfactory. Officials had reportedly failed to submit any written assurance to agitating leaders.
Passengers who signed the petition issued a warning. They said the movement would be intensified further if no improvements were implemented. Meanwhile, the Samiti announced that all collected signatures would be formally submitted to senior railway officials.
The agitation against train delays at Tatanagar has been building over several weeks. Future strategy on the issue is expected to be decided soon by the committee leadership.
