JAMSHEDPUR – A minor girl was allegedly abducted from a wedding and assaulted in West Singhbhum, leading to the arrest of two accused.

The incident occurred in Manoharpur police station limits of West Singhbhum district. The case has raised serious concerns over safety in rural areas.

According to police, the minor had attended a wedding in Abhaypur village. Meanwhile, the incident took place late at night on April 13.

At around midnight, the girl went out to relieve herself. However, two men allegedly forcefully abducted her.

They reportedly took her into a nearby forest. Moreover, the accused allegedly assaulted her before fleeing the spot.

After the incident, the minor returned home silently. Meanwhile, she informed her mother about the crime the next day.

Following this, the information spread among local villagers. In contrast, villagers acted swiftly and tracked down the accused.

They caught both suspects during the night. Moreover, they handed them over to the police without delay.

Police identified the accused as Ajit Tirkey, aged 19, from Abhaypur. Meanwhile, the second accused was Raju Lakra, aged 29, from Kashijoda.

During interrogation, both reportedly admitted involvement. However, police continued questioning to verify all details.

A case was registered under relevant sections of BNS and POCSO Act. Moreover, the FIR included sections 65(2), 70(1), and 76.

On Thursday, both accused were produced before court. Meanwhile, they were sent to judicial custody.

The incident has sparked concern in nearby areas like Chaibasa. Moreover, authorities have urged increased vigilance during public events.

Police stated that investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, officials are ensuring support for the victim and her family.
