Father McGrath Centre Trains Youth in Computer Skills, Fashion Design, Plumbing

JAMSHEDPUR – XLRI Jamshedpur’s Father McGrath Skill Development Centre held its fifth batch certification ceremony on campus.
The FM-SDC distributed certificates to 57 students Friday. These trainees belong to rural and disadvantaged communities. They come from two different states across the region.
The batch comprised three distinct training programs. Computer skills and data entry attracted 43 participants. Garment and fashion designing enrolled 6 students. Meanwhile, plumbing and electrical wiring internship trained 8 individuals.
All participants received intensive practical training throughout. They mastered their respective fields before certification. Previous batches have placed graduates in schools and offices.
Some alumni work in private companies currently. Others secured government office positions successfully. Furthermore, several graduates chose entrepreneurship paths independently.
Centre Convenor Father Donald D’Silva SJ welcomed the students. He stated Xavier Community College has trained 198 students. The initiative reflects XLRI’s social engagement mission toward communities.
Certificates enable dignified employment opportunities for recipients. They can pursue both jobs and self-employment options. Moreover, the credentials boost their confidence significantly for work.
XLRI Director Father Sebastian George SJ congratulated the graduates. He emphasized skills matter more than degrees today. He advised students to pursue continuous upskilling practices.
Jesuit Provincial Father Jerry Kutina SJ stressed honesty values. He urged students to contribute responsibly toward society. His message emphasized ethical professional conduct throughout careers.
Program Coordinator Father Praveen Jose SJ explained training details. XLRI conducted entire training free under social responsibilities. Students learned communication skills and workplace readiness comprehensively.
The training opens opportunities in multiple sectors. Government service, education and entrepreneurship welcome these graduates. Additionally, construction sector offers employment prospects for technical trainees.
