Blinkit Riders Strike at Bagbera Store Over Safety Concerns

Nearly 100 Delivery Workers Demand Better Pay and Security

Key Points:

  • Approximately 100 Blinkit riders halt work at Bagbera store
  • Workers cite robbery incident and inadequate payout as reasons
  • Store incharge refers matter to company-level decision makers

JAMSHEDPUR – Nearly 100 delivery riders at Bagbera Blinkit store went on strike today. The workers raised concerns about safety and payment issues.

The store operates opposite Mandi Gate in Bagbera area. Riders deliver goods items to customers round the clock. However, they feel insecure about their working conditions.

Birbal Ram and Maruti spoke about the strike decision. They revealed a robbery incident occurred two days ago. A rider faced snatching in Jugsalai during delivery duty.

Moreover, store management took no action after the incident. Workers demanded enhanced security measures for field operations. In addition, inadequate payout structure troubles delivery personnel significantly.

The riders expressed frustration over payment disparities persistently. Management refuses to increase their earnings despite rising workload. On the other hand, threats of termination accompany any complaints.

“We face constant threats when raising concerns,” Birbal Ram stated. Workers feel intimidated by dismissal warnings from management. Furthermore, the payout system remains unchanged despite repeated requests.

The delivery workers halted operations temporarily at the store. Approximately 100 riders participated in the work stoppage. However, customer orders remained undelivered during the protest hours.

Store incharge responded to the workers’ demands cautiously. He cited company-level decision-making authority for resolution matters. Moreover, he avoided taking personal responsibility for addressing concerns.

The management referred all issues to higher authorities. Local store officials claimed limited power over payment structures. In addition, they deflected security responsibility to corporate headquarters.

The strike disrupted delivery services in the Bagbera locality. Customers experienced delays in receiving ordered items today. Furthermore, the protest highlighted gig workers’ vulnerability in delivery sector.

Riders work extensive hours ensuring timely customer service daily. They navigate traffic and weather conditions for deliveries consistently. However, their safety concerns receive inadequate attention from management.

The Jugsalai robbery incident remains unresolved till date. No compensation or security upgrade followed the snatching episode. Moreover, affected rider received no support from company representatives.

Workers demand immediate action on pending safety measures now. Enhanced insurance coverage forms part of their requirements list. In addition, they seek transparent payout calculation mechanisms urgently.

The goods delivery sector faces labor unrest increasingly. Gig economy workers across India raise similar concerns regularly. Furthermore, contractual employment terms create worker vulnerability in service industry.
